Andhra Pradesh Govt. sets PL shrimp price at 35 paise

Amaravati: The State government of Andhra Pradesh has fixed a maximum price for Post Larvae (PL) shrimp at 35 paise for the next crop.

In a letter issued to all district collectors last Tuesday (28th April 2020), the State government has advised the hatchery operators to “commence the production and supply of SPF seed to farmers for the next crop at reasonable price (35 paise per Post Larvae (PL)”.

The letter says, “The sale price of the shrimp shall not exceed 35 paise per PL under any circumstances as certain instances have come to the notice of the government that certain hatchery operators are charging higher price ranging from 45 to 55 paise PL which is not at all acceptable to the Government. Hence, the District Collectors are requested to keep watch on the sale price of seed by the hatchery operator and if any hatchery is found selling the seed over and above 35 paise per PL, suitable action shall be initiated on the management”.

The State government has also assured the hatchery operators to address their concerns such as labour mobility, vehicles movement, transportation to other states for import of nauplii and wet feeds by issuing labour and vehicle passes and enable the hatchery operators to produce the seed without hurdles.

The nationwide lockdown had brought all shrimp farming activities virtually to a halt.
