The Prawn Farmers Federation of India-Andhra Pradesh region has demanded the reduction of feed price in order to compensate the losses incurred due to Covid 2019 and ensuring sustainability of shrimp farming.

“As the feed cost is almost 40% of the entire production cost and any increase in feed price will directly hit the farmers. It is very much needed to reduce the feed cost. Thus, we have appealed state government to intervene and support farmers,” said I P R Mohan Raju President Prawn Farmers Federation of India.

The federation has written a letter seeking AP government’s intervention to bring the feed cost to the pre-Covid 2019 level.

Earlier, on the request of the Federation, the state government intervened to stabilise the price of shrimp and set a minimum price for buying shrimp from farmers and stabilizing the shrimp seed prices.

However, the feed prices have gone up due to short supply of raw materials like corn, soya, de-oiled rice bran and mustard cake during the pandemic period.
