Kochi: To add festive cheer for the city residents and to create market avenue for aquafarmers, The ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) will conduct a three-day live fish sale at its campus from Sunday (Dec 22).
The highlight of the fest is the live display and sale of premium varieties such as pearl spot (Karimeen) seabass (Kalanji) and red snapper (Chembally) farmed in cage culture by CMFRI trained farmers. The live fish sale will feature fish directly procured from cage-cultured farms harvested on demand, aiming to connect aqua farmers directly with customers eliminating middlemen.
This initiative focuses on promoting fresh, high-quality fish directly to consumers while showcasing the success of CMFRI’s mariculture technology and the efforts of local fish farmers.
The event will be organised by the Agricultural Technology Information Centre (ATIC) of CMFRI in association with Blue Pearl Fish Farmers Producer Organisation (FPO), Kodungalloor. Sales counter will remain open from 7 am to 6 pm until Tuesday.
Blue Pearl FPO, a collective of dedicated fish farmers specialized in cage culture farming. Its members received training from CMFRI’s Mariculture Division.
