The East Godavari District Aqua Farmers’ Association has donated Rs 31, 76 ,000 to the District Collector’s Covid 19 Fund to help people affected by the Covid 19 pandemic and its induced lockdown. The association members have handed over a cheque to the district collector, Muralidhar Reddy Friday.
The Kakinada city MLA Sri Chandra Sekhar Reddy and Joint Director-Fisheries, Satyanaryana were also present on this occasion.
Doing their bit to raise funds and give hope to the people, the Aqua Farmers Association urged its members to extend support for the cause.
“The impact of the Covid 19 pandemic is very high in the district. It is one of the top three infected districts in Andhra Pradesh. Many farmers have been affected. Several of them also lost their lives. It is very sad,’ said V Rambabu, Secretary, East Godavari District Aqua Farmers Association.
East Godavari district is the second highest shrimp producer in the State with more than 1,50,000 tonnes production. Around 25000 hectares of area are covered under the shrimp farming in the district. More than 10000 farmers are depending on the shrimp farming for their employment and livelihood.
Among others, the EG District Farmers’ Association President, Ch V Suryarao, Secretary, V Rambabu, K Raghu, K Ramkrishna Raju and other aqua farmers were present in the event.
