Local companies urged to help shape the future of sustainable shrimp farming.
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam: With Ho Chi Minh City as the gathering place, Shrimp Summit participants will convene 24-26 July 2023 in one of the world’s top shrimp-producing countries. The Summit will bring together retailers, importers, exporters, processors, feed companies, producers, NGOs, and government representatives to develop practical, consensus solutions to existing challenges in shrimp farming.
To make in-person participation more accessible to Vietnamese residents, a reduced registration fee of US $700 is being offered. “We are delighted to offer this reduced rate in appreciation for the warm and generous support we’ve received from our Vietnam co-hosts and sponsors,” said Summit Chair George Chamberlain.
Local support from Vietnam’s agricultural, seafood, and shrimp industries has been strong. The Summit producer, The Center for Responsible Seafood (TCRS), is joined by the Vietnam Department of Fisheries and the Vietnam Fisheries Society (VINAFIS) as co-hosts, along with the International Collaborating Centre for Aquaculture and Fisheries Sustainability (ICAFIS) and the Global Seafood Alliance (GSA). Local government representatives and the New World Saigon Hotel (Summit venue) have been invaluable collaborators. In addition, in-country sponsors have been generous with their support: Gold sponsor Thai Union and Silver sponsors Minh Phu, Grobest, and Quoc Viet Foods.
The 2023 Shrimp Summit will foster discussions where new paradigms are expected to emerge for productivity, improved livelihoods, and achievement of a higher level of sustainability, especially regarding climate change. Nine sessions, guided by thought leaders and expert speakers and panelists from around the globe, will address Global Production & Markets, Disease Management, Shrimp Breeding, Grow out Intensification, Sustainable Feeds, Improver Programs, Expanding the Market, Investment, and Innovations.
On 24 July, the Summit offers a tour of Minh Phu’s super-intensive vannamei tank farm. Attendees will get aninside look at the highly efficient operations of the largest shrimp producer in Vietnam. The limited-seating tour is complimentary with registration, courtesy of Grobest Vietnam. Following the Summit, on 27-28July, an excursion to the Ca Mau region will allow attendees to see black tiger shrimp being raised at low densities in harmony with mangroves. In addition, tours of the Viet Uc hatchery and Minh Phu’s processing plant will round out the trip. The shrimp-focused tour to Ca Mau is an overnight excursion that includes all transportation (charter flight, modern speedboat, and bus), hotel, meals, and entertainment for 70 participants.
Shrimp Summit sessions and tours will foster knowledge sharing and collaboration for advancing this vital sector. Producers, retailers, importers, exporters, processors, feed companies, NGOs, and government representatives, can contribute insights by attending. “Only if the whole value chain participates in the discussions,” said Chamberlain, “can we expect to achieve meaningful outcomes to advance the sector.”
Attendees can contribute to discussions and access relevant resources before, during, and after the Summit in the TCRS Online Community. Beyond its Shrimp Summit sub community, the TCRS Community is a growing community of over 1400 peers dedicated to supporting regenerative seafood processes through knowledge sharing, thoughtful discussion groups, and unique content and podcasts only available in the community. Members can expand their networks and earn credentials by taking courses developed by aquaculture experts. There is no cost to seafood professionals to join our community.
This is an opportunity for important voices in the industry to be a part of critical discussions and contribute to solutions that will position global shrimp farming for long-term growth. Industry professionals residing in Vietnam who wish to attend at the special rate of US$700 should contact Laura Rose, Program Manger.
